Lucknow: In the view of rising COVID-19 infections in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday (May 15, 2021) decided to extend the partial corona curfew in the state till May 24. Earlier, the UP authorities had imposed a corona curfew in the state on April 29, which was later extended on May 10 and 17 respectively. The decision was taken a day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a virtual meeting with top officials of the state to review the COVID-19 situation. New Delhi: The National Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) on Friday (May 14, 2021) wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, requesting him to lift the complete COVID-19 lockdown in the national capital. NDTA, in their letter, urged the Delhi Chief Minister to open markets in a phased manner ‘with strict enforcement of laws’. The letter comes in the backdrop of complete COVID-19 lockdown in Delhi amid rising COVID-19 infections. New Delhi: United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday (May 14, 2021) announced to speed up the COVID-19 vaccination drive and warned that the 'Indian variant' is more transmissible. In a press briefing, Johnson said that since Monday, the UK has seen further clusters of the B.1.617.2, the COVID-19 variant first observed in India. He stated that it has so far been reported especially in Bolton, Blackburn with Darwen and some other parts of the country. "At this stage, there are some important unknowns. New Delhi: At least 73 cases of rare ‘black fungus’ infection have been detected in COVID-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh so far. Out of the 73 cases, maximum have been discovered in Varanasi. While 20 cases have been reported in Varanasi so far, Lucknow 15, 10 in Gorakhpur, six in Prayagraj, five in Gautam Buddh Nagar, four cases in Meerut, three each in Kanpur, Mathura and Ghaziabad, and one case in Agra, as per a Hindustan Live report. Two COVID-19 patients died in Kanpur while two patients in Mathura and one in Lucknow lost their eyesight due to the black fungus infection, the report added. 2 Crore Covaxin Doses to be Produced Per Month at PSU Plant in UP’s Bulandshahr

To ramp up the vaccination drive and meet the high demand of doses, production of Covaxin will soon begin in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. The Centre on Wednesday approved the manufacture of Covaxin, India’s indigenous vaccine being manufactured by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, at Bulandshar plant of Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Limited (BIBCOL).According to reports, the PSU will manufacture 2 crore doses of Covaxin every month. BIBCOL established in 1989 in Bulandshahar manufactures oral polio vaccines and other immunisers. Mumbai: The ongoing lockdown in Maharashtra could be further extended till May 31, hinted state Health Minister Rajesh Tope after a cabinet meeting on the issue on Wednesday (May 12). Tope, however, said that the final decision in this regard will be taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The health ministry has proposed an extension of lockdown for 15 more days.
